Creata da Glenn Gordon Caron, già autore nel 1985 di Moonlighting[/SERIETV], Medium è ispirata alla storia vera di Allison DuBois, una medium ossessionata dai sogni e le visioni di defunti, che cerca di comprendere ed interpretare, per far luce sulle vicende che li vede protagonisti.
In patria, Medium ha ottenuto un buon successo sia di critica che di pubblico, risultando il maggior ascolto settimanale della NBC nella seconda serata, nonostante la concorrenza di un'altra serie molto amata, come CSI Miami, e ottenendo anche una nomination ai prossimi Golden Globes per la Arquette.

Lanciata da Rai Tre nel periodo natalizio, la serie, dopo un avvio un po' in sordina, si dimostra interessante, soprattutto per l'ottima interpretazione della protagonista, Patricia Arquette, nel ruolo della DuBois.
L'abilità dell'attrice, permette agli autori di lavorare molto sui dubbi, le incertezze e i problemi della DuBois, divisa tra la carriera e la famiglia ed indecisa sull'opportunità di usare le sue capacità nel suo lavoro presso il Procuratore Distrettuale. I poteri medianici diventano quindi motore della narrazione, non solo in quanto funzionali alle vicende investigative, ma anche per come influenzano nel bene, ma soprattutto nel male, la vita quotidiana della protagonista, madre di tre figlie e con un marito ingegnere aerospaziale (Jake Weber), la cui prima reazione alle parole della moglie è ovviamente scettica.
Ben bilanciata tra problemi di vita quotidiana, momenti drammatici ed inevitabili sequenze di tensione, Medium risulta, già dopo i primi episodi, una visione piacevole ed accattivante, capace di tener vivo l'interesse dello spettatore.
In seguito alle rivelazioni di una giornalista, Allison Dubois non ha più la possibilità di lavorare per il procuratore Devalos, che è costretto a dimettersi e come se non bastasse, anche il detective Scanlon sembra non voler più avere nulla a che fare con lei. A questo punto entra in scena un nuovo personaggio, interpretato dalla fascinosa e brava Anjelica Huston, che veste i panni della detective privata Cynthia Keener, che si fida dello straordinario intuito di Allison e le chiede di affiancarla nelle sue indagini.

Nei primi tre episodi che vedremo stasera, Allison e Cynthia si ritroveranno a indagare sul rapimento di un bambino e sulla misteriosa scomparsa di una ragazza. Nella terza puntata, dal titolo Mia per sempre, la figlia del capo di Joe Dubois sarà presa in ostaggio. Non mancheranno ovviamente premonizioni, sogni e visioni, che sono il fulcro di questa splendida serie, che negli USA è stata già confermata per la quinta stagione, attesa sul network NBC tra qualche giorno.[/color][/size]
