The Avant Garde Project is a series of 20th-century classical, experimental, and electroacoustic torrents digitized from LPs whose music has in most cases never been released on CD, and so is effectively inaccessible to the vast majority of music listeners today. This is wild stuff, so check it out if you've never heard this sort of music before. The analog rig used to extract the sound from the grooves is near state-of-the-art, producing almost none of the tracking distortion or surface noise normally associated with LPs.
AGP1-144 are now available for direct download in the archive at www.avantgardeproject.org
AGP145-146 and other recent AGP installments are also available at http://thepiratebay.org/user/loudav
AGP147 is the second of two featuring the remarkable Polish tuba virtuoso (yes, you heard me), Zdzislaw Piernik. This man makes his elephantine instrument dance in ways I would never have thought possible. The result is in places more like electronic than acoustic music. There is some amazing stuff in both of these installments, so do not miss them.
The LPs transcribed for AGP146 and AGP147 are among the rarest to be included in the AGP--in three decades of foraging for used LPs, I've never seen copies of either of them at any price. They have been provided through the generosity of Mark Ellison. The LPs are both . The LP transcribed for this installment (ISPV 102 on the German ProViva label) is in excellent condition, with only occasional bits of tracking distortion during some of the more explosive attacks.
The torrent includes a PDF file with scans of the notes on both LP covers, including a handsome photo of the artist himself.
