La serie trata de una ciudad que no está en ningún mapa llamada Eureka (de ahí el nombre de la serie) en la que se reúnen investigadores, pensadores, científicos de renombre para llevar a cabo estudios secretos, en los que sus personajes han roto con las leyes de la física descubriendo una nueva realidad en una ciudad en la que todo es posible. La ciudad es obviamente secreta hasta que un federal de los Estados Unidos, Jack Carter, la descubre por accidente y se ve obligado a mudarse a ella junto a su hija Zoe, aceptando el puesto de sheriff.
