Torrent description

Doctor Who Easter Special 2009 Planet of the Dead [CuF]
HQ (X264-AAC51-MKV)

Yup, another release of the Easter Special.
Why?
I haven't been too happy with recent releases.
I like the 720p releases, but 90% of the time I watch on an SD display. It takes up too much space to store them if I'm not watching in 720.
As for the standard and HQ releases, they each have their failings.

This ended up being more of a test. I wanted to see if there was interest in an encoding done 'my way'. I have no plans to do this regularly. I just want to put it out there so someone who does encodes regularly might decide to take on some of my suggestions.

Features:
-True 1024x576 - 720x576 made sense when the broadcasts were SDTV or the encoding format is DVD mpeg2. Now that they're shown in HD it's arbitrary. Why not 640x576 or 480x480? A 16:9 display aspect ratio will give better quality if you don't alter the pixel aspect ratio of 1:1.

-AAC 5.1 - The source is 5.1 surround now, and I'd like to enjoy all 6 channels. AAC can handle 5.1 at half the bitrate because it's variable (unlike DD). To my ear the dynamic range takes a bit of a hit, but for 100mb less, it's a reasonable trade-off. Much better than an MP3 2-channel downmix. (I still haven't ruled out AC3 as an option.)

-Higher Bitrate - Higher resolution means more bits needed. Most releases still adhere to the 1/2 CD 350mb rule of thumb. I don't burn to CDs because they cost almost the same per disc as a DVD. This is a one hour episode, so I used even more space. I figure a regular episode should weight in at 525mb to yield the same Bits/(Pixel*Frame). That's still 8 episodes per DVD.

-Standalone Compatibility - I used an encoding profile that should allow people who watch on PS3/Xbox consoles to just remux to the appropriate container and they're g2g. Although I believe the Xbox360 doesn't do AAC. (A sync-able AC3 track is availble by request.)

-Audio Commentary - After every episode airs, no matter which release I d/l, I end up muxing the audio commentary. So, I added it here. The announcer has been losslessly trimmed. Otherwise it's untouched from the BBC website.

-English Subtitles - Ditto for the subs. I speak English... not necessarily British. ;) I didn't build them, but I made a few corrections and removed the 100's of group credit tags.

-Misc. - The source I leaned most heavily on had a breakup in it. That one second has been fixed using BiA's 720p as a source. If I didn't have another source I would have just clipped frames. I hate seeing breakups in releases.
