"George Enescu was said by Pablo Casals to be "the most amazing musician since Mozart", a statement wich in many respects was true. He achieved interational renown as a violonist, conductor, composer and pianist, and he displayed genius in each of these disciplines. He possesed a phenomenal memory and knew the entire repertoire of classical and romantic music by heart, in addition to many works of the twentieth century, with which one of his generation might well have been thought unsympathetic.
