Faryl Smith [born 1995] is an English singer from Kettering, who rose to fame after auditioning for the second series of the ITV television talent show Britain's Got Talent, performing as a mezzo-soprano. Although reaching the final, she finished outside the top three. After the show, she rejected offers of contracts from Sony BMG, and instead signed with Universal Classics and Jazz for a ?2.3 million contract, the largest ever offered to a schoolgirl. As well as following her new musical career, Smith lives with her parents and continues to attend school.
'Faryl' is the debut album by British mezzo-soprano Faryl Smith, released on March 9th 2009 by Universal Classics and Jazz. Recorded between December 2008 and January 2009, it features the track 'River of Light', a song set to 'The Blue Danube'. Promotional appearances have included numerous television and radio appearances, as well as the recording of a music video. On the day of the release, the album reached the No.1 spot on the UK Albums Chart due to presales. It became the fastest selling classical solo album in British chart history, selling 20,000 copies in the first four days.
