Oistrakh's recorded performance of the Prokofiev Sonata included here stands out in this listener's mind as perhaps the most outstanding one made of this work (but, of course, everyone has their own preferences).
Leonard Bernstein once wrote something to the effect that while Oistrakh was here, the world was (or seemed) to be a better place. Here's to the hope that circulating these recordings accomplishes a bit of the same...
