Le projet de musique ethnique/classique Adiemus est l’invention du compositeur/chef d’orchestre Karl Jenkins, qui devint célèbre avec la formation de rock prog The Soft Machine.
Adiemus commença quand Jenkins écrivit une pièce assignée par la Delta Airlines pour un spot télé.
La fusion des chants ethniques et de l’orchestre s’avéra si populaire parmi le public qu’un album complet intitulé “Songs of Sanctuary”, enregistré avec le London Philarmonic Orchestra, sortit en 1995.
Il devint un tube.
