Joe Bonamassa's Blues Deluxe is a tribute to the blues that has inspired this 26-year old guitar wizard. He plays with the dexterity and drive of a bluesman who's been playing all his life. Usually, I'd say that about players in the 40s or 50s, but coincidentally, Joe has been playing nearly all his life. Picked up the guitar at age four, and sat in with BB King before his 13th birthday. Blues Deluxe is Joe's way of honoring the giants of the blues. His take on John Lee Hooker's "Burning Hell" simmers, and BB would be mighty proud of his fretwork on "You Upset Me Baby." Bonamassa's command of and respect for blues pioneers like Elmore James, Albert Collins, and T-Bone Walker is clearly evident on this screaming disc. Joe was born on what would have been Robert Johnson's 66th birthday. I'm not superstitious, normally, but believe that the planets and stars lined up to sprinkle some blues pixie dust on of the younger blues generation's hottest guitar players.
