Nanna - Nanna: A brand new singer Nanna arrives here with original songs in his namesake album. This new pop album boast of some hip-hop songs. Take your pick from eight new songs from the album like Hai Kahan Pyar Mera, Kahan Ho Tum, Kuchh Yaad Hai, Meri Shaan Tu and more.

When you pick up an album that has a title which goes like 'Nanna', you are not sure what it would be all about. But then you end up seeing the video of the first song of the album, 'Kahan Ho Tum', and you start taking it a little seriously. You start believing that this could be a good take on music by singer/performer Nanna along with Santokh Singh, the composer of the album.

It's a soothing beginning to the album with the opening number 'Kahan Ho Tum' that spells good quality as soon as it opens. There is a certain Adnan Sami feel to the manner in which Nanna goes about singing the number and once you have heard it a few times, it is difficult to not get hooked on to 'Kahan Ho Tum'. A slow moving track that is almost unplugged in nature, 'Kahan Ho Tum' is about a man's search for the love that has been close to his heart for long but is now missing from his life.

Written by Santokh Singh and Nanna himself, 'Kahan Ho Tum' is a beautiful number that is a must hear for those who want their music to be melodious. As is the trend, remix version of this song arrives too. This time around the arrangements are such that the track is given a sonic feel. Well, we would love to hear the original version any time.

The sonic feel opens the second track of the album, 'If You Don't Mind', a track that completely shifts the mood of the album and in fact comes across as a surprise. Just when one had been immersed in the pool of melody, this Santokh Singh written pop number with a touch of Punjabi forces one to loose focus that was being built in the album. As such too the song is no great shakes and though it is certainly listenable, it doesn't attempt at creating something that hasn't been heard before. Until and unless the song is accompanied by a highly impressive video, there isn't much that one would remember of 'If You Don't Mind' in weeks to come.

It's back to plain melody with 'Kuchh Yaad Hai' which is written by Ravii. Nanna shows the range in his voice as after 'Kahan Ho Tum' that had an Adnan Sami feel to it, 'Kuchh Yaad Hai' sees him in a different light altogether as he shifts the pitch and depth in his voice to sound more youthful. A kind of song that is often heard in Lucky Ali albums, there is a touch of wilderness in 'Kuchh Yaad Hai' too which is about someone who has just fallen in love and is feeling good about it. To be heard around a bonfire with youngsters in tow, 'Kuchh Yaad Hai' is a decent follow up to 'Kahan Ho Tum'.

After 'Kahan Ho Tum', Santokh Singh and Nanna come back together again to write 'Saara Hindustan'. A number in appreciation of the scenic beauty that India is, this one is a number about belongingness to the country of one's origin and how one needs to appreciate and admire the rich country that we live in. Instead of moving at a vociferous pace that most numbers belonging to such genre do, 'Saara Hindustan' instead picks melody as a base and moves at a mid-range pace. Overall an average number.

Santokh Singh written 'Mul Lagna' is a 'qawalli' that has the kind of lyrics that have been heard often a dozen off times before. In fact it comes closest to 'Roothe Yaar Nu Manale' [Chori Chori, st: Ajay Devgan, Rani Mukherjee], a number that was heard years back. With not much punch in the number, especially the singing part, 'Mul Lagna' is not much impressive even in the rhythm department and comes across as yet another average track. At this point one starts wondering if beyond 'Kahan Ho Tum', is there anything else that could make 'Nanna' an album to go for?

Well, that doesn’t quite seem to be the case as 'Meri Shaan Tu' is the next number to arrive. Lackluster in appeal with a touch of rock added to make this sufi number sound a little interesting, this track in appreciation of God doesn't quite cut an ice and comes and goes. Yet again, neither singing nor rhythm create anything interesting in 'Meri Shaan Tu' with lyrics too being a routine hear.

Lastly comes 'Hai Kahaan Pyaar Mera' that has a club beginning to it and sets the feat tapping with the beats that follow. Strangely one is still not quite kicked about what would follow later in the song since the numbers preceding this had hardly been anything exciting. Well, that's exactly how 'Hai Kahaan..' turns out to be the case as the song to follow after the beats is average yet again with a kind of tune that at most could be termed passable.

After the opening number there were huge expectations from the album but they are not met at all. Agreed that none of the songs are out and out bad or a difficult hear but then they are not interesting enough either to make you glued on to them for a repeat hearing.
