Advanced Choreography: Drum Solo with Suhalia Salimpour
I DON'T have her other two choreography videos, so don't ask
This video is quite old, shes very young in this and was orginally made on VHS and transferred to DVD by the makers...but the quality is not bad at all...maybe would have preferred a little better.
First time I saw this I really didn't like it at all, and my opinion still swings towards the negative. I think the video is short at 48mintues and the actual choreography too short at well. It looks like it has been shot in an empty white room and you don't see the dance from behind, its always in a wide view and doesn't zoom in close.
I'm not sure that she wore was the best thing to teach in, I found it very difficult to even see when she undulated or did hip movements. I found her hip movements to be small....smaller than they were on the performance where she exagerated them more, perhaps something bulkier tied around her hips like a veil or a normal skirt would have helped me see better.
Combining Suhaila's format of belly dance and Jamila Salimpour's tribal format with the influence of Lebanese and Egyptian styles, this is a drum solo you can perform alone or with friends. Suhaila matches the drumbeat to syncopated upper body movements. Her advanced hip work combinations help you learn upper and lower body isolations, pelvic and body locks and other precise dance movemens. At the end of the lesson Suhaila performs the entire choreography.
