Entretenidísima película de aventuras y romances (no hay una, sino dos preciosas historias de amor) en la América colonial del siglo XVIII, basada en la novela de Fennimore Cooper. Un magnífico y creíble Day Lewis, la guapa Madeleine Stowe en su mejor papel (atención al duelo de miradas sostenidas entre ambos en la cabaña) y una banda sonora tan impactante como acertada son sólo algunos de los alicientes de uno de los mejores films de aventuras de los noventa.

Synopsis: British and French troops do battle in colonial America, with aid from various native American war parties. The British troops enlist the help of local colonial militia men, who are reluctant to leave their homes undefended. A budding romance between a British officer's daughter and an independent man who was reared as a Mohawk complicates things for the British officer, as the adopted Mohawk pursues his own agenda despite the wrath of different people on both sides of the conflict.
