Kathy uses the new washing machine for her astronaut-and-spaceship games. She puts in anything she can get her hands on. Included in the items sent through the wash is Betty’s skirt that she needs for “Girls in Government Day”. Kathy has even laundered the mail! Among the unreadable letters is one from the police to Bud. Why would the police want to talk with Bud? Could it be because Bud pilfered two old oil-drums from a dump?

Kathy won first place in the class with her Thanksgiving poem, and Jim's pride grows unrealistically. He is sure his daughter will be the next Shakespeare. Pride turns to disappointment when the Jim actually hears the prize winning poem. Is it really Kathy’s work? To make matters worse, Kathy hears her father critizing the poem.
