Unlike the outrageous fantasy plots of cartoons that preceded it, "Jonny Quest" drew on science and detective-style logic to solve mysteries and apprehend sophisticated villains. Viewers were transported to exotic locales as Jonny's dad Dr. Benton Quest tackled each new government assignment, aided by ex-agent "Race" Bannon, the Indian boy Hadji, family bulldog Bandit...and of course, his fearless 11-year-old son Jonny (voiced by actor Tim Matheson).
Now all 26 classic episodes from Year One charting the fantastic exploits of brave and brainy Jonathan Quest are available for the first time ever, digitally re-mastered on DVD in a deluxe four-disc collectors set, featuring over 11 hours of classic original TV programming and newly-added enhanced content.

Disc four holds this set's extras. First up is "Jonny Quest Files: Fun, Facts and Trivia: Double Danger," a Pop-up Video-style, partially animated trivia track superimposed on the "Double Danger" episode. Although this episode was the ninth one aired, it was actually the first produced. The track mixes interesting tidbits about the series, its creators, characters, and actors along with occasionally sarcastic comments on the show's animated flubs and sometimes stilted dialogue. The trivia track also mentions a two minute network pilot presentation which, unfortunately, is not presented here. Ultimately, the trivia track is a mixed bag, but fans will definitely want to check it out.
In the fifteen minute "Jonny Quest: Adventures in Animation," Quest fans in the animation industry (including The Iron Giant director Brad Bird, Justice League director Dan Riba, animation writer Lance Falk, artist/illustrator Steve Rude, writer and producer Tom Minton, and artist/illustrator Alex Ross) discuss the series and its look. Their appreciation and deconstruction of the series makes this a must-see.
The "Jonny Quest Video Handbook" is an interactive guide to the world of Jonny Quest. It presents short video dossiers titled "Jonny Quest," "Race Bannon," "Dr. Quest," "Hadji," "Bandit," "Allies," "Villains," "Vehicles," "Gadgets & Gear," and "Locales." In each, a narrator debriefs viewers on the subject at hand while footage from the series illustrates his points. Each runs from one to two minutes. Nothing new is learned here, but this extra is nevertheless a fun one.
Jonny and Race appear in a one minute "P.F. Flyer Sneaker Commercial." This "P.F. Flyer Adventure" features a breathless narrator detailing Jonny's mission to save Race from an erupting volcano. He is, of course, aided by his B.F. Goodrich "Action Shoes." Of the two characters, only Jonny speaks. Tim Matheson's voice, however, is not used.
"Additional Cartoon Classics Sets" provides commercials for The Flintstones: The Complete First Season, Scooby-Doo Where Are You?: The Complete First and Second Seasons, The Jetsons: The Complete First Season, and Samurai Jack: The Complete First Season.
