The compass of gold is exciting fantasy adventure, set in a parallel world in which the soul of people is manifested in the form of small animals, talking bears while fighting in war and children mysteriously disappear. At the heart of history there is a twelve-year-old, Lyra, who has pledged to find and save his best friend, Roger, and that ends up facing an extraordinary quest to save not only his world but also ours. Lyra's world is very similar to ours, but is in a parallel universe. Much of it is familiar to us: the continents, oceans, Brytannia, Nordovegia and the North Pole. But another part is incredibly different. In the world of Lyra, the soul of a person living outside of his body, in the form of a daimon, an animal spirit that accompanies speaking during his life, remained close to half his body. The daimon of a child can change shape, assuming all the appearance that the infinite imagination typical of that age can ispirargli. But when a person grows, his daimon gradually remains in one form, depending on his character and his nature. The link between a human being and a daimon is extraordinarily strong: a person without a daimon in the world of Lyra, is considered a victim of un'orribile mutilation, and joke about this connection is one of the biggest taboos exist.
