Ronin is a film of 1998 directed by John Frankenheimer, with Robert De Niro and Jean Reno.
The film is set between the towns of Blue coast (between Cannes and Nice) and Paris, where a group of five mercenaries be responsible for unlawful possession of a mysterious suitcase tied to the wrist of a man important to organized crime. The contents of the suitcase remains mysterious, so groped by one of five men to betray the group and sell it on his own, because the Russian Mafia and the Irish (probably the 'IRA) are competing for this purpose does not hesitate to shoot to retrieve it. Sam (Robert De Niro) is a former agent of CIA who is hired by a mysterious man on a wheelchair to get to Paris the other mercenaries in a secret place where we introduced the plan to steal the briefcase. A leader of the group's Deirdre (Natascha McElhone), who gives instructions to be executed on the floor, and represents the Irish under the guidance of boss Seamus O'Rourke (Jonathan Pryce), a fugitive terrorist. The sale takes place under a bridge on the banks of the Seine, where Sam, Vincent and others are called to get closer and closer, but the cunning of Sam tells him that something is wrong, and in fact it is a trap where they are keeping better money and weapons. Sam Vincent is grateful for having saved his life off not to go forward under the bridge. The five men left for Nice to refine the plan and begin the assault trapping the target in a fairly busy area of the city and steal the briefcase. Everything is fine until the special forces of the French police to intervene and Gregor (Stellan Skarsgård), in the confusion, replace with an identical suitcase made by him the night before to stay at the hotel. Sam, in the arm while the bag, notice the fresh paint on the hand and on the jacket, promptly understood the trick and the spear away, Larry (Skipp Sudduth) is wounded in a leg because of the explosion. Sam asks for help to a former colleague of the secret service to track the cell Gregor to get the briefcase, the scene moves to Arles, in France, where two men of the Russian mafia working for mikh are instructed to kill and take Gregor the bag. Sam and Vincent are there when he recognizes one of the Russians and begins a series of shootings leading to injuries to Sam and to retreat with nothing in hand. Seamus O'Rourke kills Larry and drive, forcing Deirdre to himself, kidnaps Gregor, getting the bag and fleeing to Paris in a dilapidated hotel. Vincent leads by Sam hurt his old friend, Jean-Pierre (Michael Lonsdale), in a villa away from the Alps, which has a great passion for the medieval Japanese culture, and explains to Sam, once healed, the concept of Ronin.
The two friends discover that Gregor had sent to himself the suitcase to a PO Box in Paris. Sam and Vincent Lo face and began another pursuit in the city center between the tunnel junctions and traffic to a site where a car traveling on Seamus, Deirdre, and Gregor is hood, ferendoli. Taking advantage opportunity, Gregor escapes again and goes directly from the boss mikh during an evening performance of the skater Natascha Kirilov, his girlfriend, to get the money promised. Sam Vincent and simultaneously understand the pretend suitcase explosive was no more than a container for ice skates and began to investigate with the few clues they have. Sam manages to recover the briefcase and wounded in the shoulder, is found the next day with Vincent in the same bar where everyone had met with the hope that Deirdre could return, but does not happen. The two friends are left with a promise to keep in touch and meet again one day. The contents of the briefcase is not revealed, but on the final scenes of the movie the words of a journalist on the radio about the peace process in Northern Ireland offer a vague hint as to its nature and why Seamus O'Rourke was so determined to possess it.
