48 HRS is considered the buddy movie upon which future films of this ilk would be judged. Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy (in his film debut) certainly had a sharp chemistry in this tale of a veteran cop (Nolte) who "borrows" convict Murphy for 48 hours to nab Murphy's ex partner and cop killer, played luridly by a young James Remar. The action is fast and furious. 48 HRS presented a much more irreverent and politically incorrect version of the genre. The film's dialogue is racist and sexist and at times funny as hell. (This early, raw Murphy is not the Murphy of The Nutty Professor. But it is certainly one of his best performances).
Starring: Nick Nolte, Eddie Murphy, Annette O'Toole, Frank McRae, James Remar.
