Navy's Submarine Service in the ninety-three years since HM Submarine No.1
was commissioned. Although the majority of the photgraphs in this book are
of the submarines which have worn the White Ensign since 1903, we have also
tried to capture a little of the flavour of submarine life throughout this
period. We have compiled a representative selection of photographs to show
the boats, the personalities of the Submarine Service and the conditions in
which they served ...
