After the defeat of Germany in WW2, Wagemuller joined the French Foreign Legion....as did many thousands of Germans who were ex Army, SS or Gestapo.
The French were happy to employ them as they needed men to fight against the Viet Minh.
This book is about his (and their) exploits in IndoChina.
Whether it is a true story, or fiction, is hard to determine. There are many sceptics, and as many true believers.
This book is apparently the most highly sought after book amongst US Forces stationed in Iraq to read....and it is indeed a difficult book to lay hands upon.
