Protectors was a team of fictional superheroes that starred in the eponymous title published by Malibu Comics. The team was made up of revamped versions of Centaur Publications characters that lapsed into public domain. Members of the team have also appeared in various limited series set in the same universe. It should be noted that a number of heroes underwent name changes because of trademark conflicts that have arisen since the originals were published.
During the 8th issue of the series, Protectors, along with it's spin-offs, participated in the so-called Genesis Merge - a loose crossover that established that all of Malibu Comics' company-owned characters co-existed in the shared universe dubbed "Genesis Universe"
The Protectors was a superhero team organized by President Brian O'Brien in the wake of a series of attacks by a super villain known as Mister Monday. The team was overseen by Philip Reinhar, the original Nightmask, while Man of War acted as the field leader. In Genesis Universe, it was the first permanent superhero team.
