Description:
The first thing I’ll say about the first Gears of War
game is that the awesome gameplay overshadowed what
many deemed a lackluster story. But there was a story
there, and if you played through the campaign that story
was very rewarding. Gears of War the comic picks up after
the end of the first game and hits the ground running.

Written by one of the games writers Gears takes on the
same qualities that the game had, a gritty surreal
environment, funny dialogue, and visceral action. The
first issue really starts off the series with a bang.
The story still focuses on Simon Phoenix and his fight
to save the planet from underworld invaders called the
Locust. He and his fellow soldiers (called Gears) are
looking to regroup with as many surviving Gears as they
can find. They haven’t had much luck so far.

If you were going to put a label on Gears of War it
would be more like Sgt. Rock and those stories than
anything current. Gears is a war story told in a more
fantastic setting than we might be accustomed to for
this kind of tale. I can best describe it as Terminator
meets Saving Private Ryan as we see this hand full of
soldiers make their way through enemy territory as
humanity struggles to survive, good stuff indeed.
