The Diary of Samuel Pepys - Ribald BBC Radio Full-Cast Drama - cheops

The highly acclaimed BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of the extraordinary personal, historical and social record of a man whose humour, generosity and mental energy made him the toast of his day.

This BBC Radio Full-Cast dramatisation is a ribald and witty account of life in 17th century England as recorded by diarist Samuel Pepys.

Pepys' world famous diary was written between 1660-1669. In it he reveals his life in honest detail. As well as personal anecdotes he records his reactions to major events such as the Great Plague, the Great Fire of London and the restoration of the Monarchy.

Six episodes of one hour each.

Episode 1: Clerk Of The Acts
Samuel Pepys accompanies Edward Montague to Holland to bring the king back to England. There's promotion in the offing as the new regime takes over. And a little nepotism oils the wheels.

Episode 2: The Wooden World
Life as Clerk of the Acts of the Navy Board is good for Samuel Pepys. He has a new house and is enjoying his newfound wealth.

Episode 3: The Shame Of It
Elizabeth is pregnant, and Pepys has been asked to reason with the Earl of Sandwich, who has taken up with a woman in Chelsea.

Episode 4: Living Merrily
Tom Pepys has died and Samuel has embarked on an affair with Mrs Bagwell.

Episode 5: Omens Of Ruin
Elizabeth's parents have caught the plague and the navy board is threatened due to lack of money.

Episode 6: Friends
Life as Clerk of the Acts of the Navy Board is rough for Samuel Pepys after the war - and his love life is in turmoil, too.

With:
Oliver Parker as Samuel Pepys
Charlotte Attenborough as his wife Elizabeth
Bernard Hepton
Bill Nighy
Ronald Hines
Michael Kitchen
Simon Russell-Beale
Terence Rigby
Christopher Douglas
