Torrent description

Synopsis: (from
Touch the intimate heart of Zen with instructions from a living master with this 12 session curriculum of inspired Dharma talks by Jakusho Kwong, a successor to the late Shunryu Suzuki.

The 13th century Zen master Keizan once wrote: "Most people want to have clarity, but sweep as you will, you cannot empty the mind." On Breath Sweeps Mind, Jakusho Kwong Roshi presents his response to this Zen teaching to offer you an "everyday Zen" that you can practice right now. The enso, or Zen circle, illustrates how the spiritual journey is actually already complete - no matter where you begin. From this perspective, Zen practice is not so much about learning something new, but simply returning to the wisdom that you originally possess: your Buddha nature. Through clear instruction in zazen meditation and Zen teaching, Jakusho Kwong invites you to return to your profundity, a depth that is always with you in the richness of this very moment.

Recorded live at Sonoma Mountain Zen Center, Jakusho Kwong exemplifies the presence of an authentic roshi, or Zen master - sometimes serious, sometimes playful, and always fully open to the experience at hand.

From AudioFile
This collection of a dozen extemporaneous talks about Zen Buddhism looks at its philosophy and practice. Jakusho Kwong, who has been practicing Zen for nearly fifty years and is successor to the famed Shunryu Suzuki, has a calm, relaxed tone. While he takes time for listeners to understand his subject, these are not talks geared to novices. The philosophical points are not simple, and there is no introduction to the concepts. Those with a firm grounding in Zen philosophy will find much of value in these talks, but beginners should abstain from this program until theyve learned the basics. Book Description
From a Dharma successor to the late Shunryu Suzuki-roshi (author of the classic Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind) comes Breath Sweeps Mind, an invitation to experience the living presence of a true Zen master. With more than 40 years of experience practicing traditional Zen, Jakusho Kwong-roshi removes some of the mystery surrounding this enigmatic philosophy through clear instruction in its core principles and how it relates to our everyday world, including methods of zazen meditation, why delusion is inseparable from enlightenment, turning our light inward, and more. Breath Sweeps Mind presents a refreshing and easily accessible transmission of Zen practice to help us return to our own profundity – which is always with us – and realize the richness of this very moment.
