Grace Unshackled is the powerful story of former slave Olaudah Equiano. Dramatised from his own writings is the true story of an African slave who bought his freedom and settled in England to become a prominent campaigner in the gruelling fight for the abolition of the slave trade.

David Oyelowo (Spooks, Five Days, The King Of Scotland) stars in this feature-length drama for BBC 7 which tells the true story of African slave and prominent campaigner Olaudah Equiano, who purchased his freedom and settled in England.

The play, dramatised from Equiano’s own book, is part of a pan-BBC season of programmes to mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in Britain, and co-stars Donald Sinden, Martin Jarvis, Nicholas Le Prevost, Richard Syms, Russell Boulter, Africa Nile and David Oyelowo's real-life wife, Jessica Oyelowo, as Mrs Equiano.

Grace Unshackled features cameo appearances from a number of distinguished African actors including Larrington Walker, Israel Oyelumade, Charles Abomeli, Uche Aniagolu, Sule Rimi and Tunde Euba.
