Company who did MTX 500 /MTX 512 and RS 128 computers, computers very similar to MSX family but incompatible.
Memotech, based in Witney in Oxfordshire, English, developed Z80-based home computers with an all-aluminum case and full size keyboard with real keys (compared to others of the same vintage such as the Sinclair Spectrum). Comprised the usual intepreted BASIC language with some interesting variations:
A built-in assembler for those daring enough to write Assembly language code
A built-in predessor to Hypercard called Noddy
More "sprites" than the comparable equipment at the time
The MTX500 came with 32Kb of RAM, MTX512 with 64Kb and the RS128 a later version with 128Kb. A drawback of the RS128 was that only 64Kb of RAM was addressable by the Z80 processor and hence some sophisticated (Assembler) page switching was required to make use of the extra memory.
One last interesting feature of the device was the ability to plug in ROM cartridges (a little like the BBC Micro). The most popular of the cartridges was ISO Pascal which allowed a much faster programming environment than the interpreted BASIC.
A considerable addition to any Memotech system was the hugely-expensive FDX system which added 5.25" floppy disk drives, Winchester hard disks and CP/M 2.2 operating system.[/quote]
