With the amazing success of Chrono Trigger, there was alot ofanticipation for a sequel. Those anticipations came to life in 2000with the release of Chrono Cross. There was a previous sequel to ChronoTrigger for the Satellaview called Radical Dreamers, but few people hadever even heard of the game. Some of the dream team behind ChronoTrigger returned to produce the sequel such as Hiranobu Sakaguchi, butothers, like Akira Toriyama, were obviously missing from thedevelopment team.
Unlike most of Square's other RPGs, Chrono Cross's plot tied in veryclosely to Chrono Triggers's. You start as a blue haired boy by thename of Serge charging through what you'll later learn to be FortDragona with a girl dressed in red and another team member. Afterflipping some switches and getting lost a bit, you make your way to atransporter in the center of the fort that sends you soaring to thehighest point of the building. When trying the door you see visions ofa dark room.. the girl dressed in red bleeding... and a blood coveredknife in your hand.. and then you wake up, it was all a dream. You goabout your daily things for a while and eventually agree to meet yourgirl friend, Leena, at Opassa Beach. There, all of the sudden a wavewill come up on you and you feel as if you've been split in 2. Afterwaking on the shore you head back to your home, Arni Village. Oddly, there no one will reconise you or will say you look like a boy whodrowned at Oppasa Beach 10 years ago. Leena, who doesn't recognize youeither will tell you where the grave of the boy you look like is.There, a soldier with a bad axe finds you as if he was expecting youand tells you to surrender. Then out of the blue, the girl dressed inred from your dream comes to your rescue. You'll eventually learn thatthe wave you experienced was you traversing between the 2 worlds.
