This is the popular and strangely addictive Dungeon Master RPG series of 3D dungeon crawl games as ported to the Fujitsu FM Towns Japan market computer, chock full of CD audio soundtrack goodness. Never fear, for at least thefirst two were released with dual English and Japanese game play options - Skull Keep, however, was only in Japanese. But since the game has very little text involved compared to most RPGs, and the UI is mostly icon-based, it is not unplayable for someone not fluent in Japanese, especially if you are familiar with the previous two, and follow strategy guides.
Speaking of which, there is much to find here: http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/257
Unz is the FM Towns emulator you'll need to use, available here: http://www.jcec.co.uk/fmtown_emu.html
If you're playing in windowed mode, use your mouse wheel/scroll button to change mouse focus into (and out of) the window.
Make sure that your Unz emulator properties are correctly set if you are using Daemon Tools in Windows XP (with "L" being my virtual CD drive assignment in DT):
To play the first in the Dungeon Master series, simply start up Unz, and it will cycle through boot devices until it finds the CD and loads the Towns OS which has icons in a window to link to the Japanese and English versions of the game. Choose the one on the right (circled):
As a bit of trivia, the FM Towns sold itself in Japan as being a computer you could learn English on, hence a large number of dual language PC ports.
The second in the series, Chaos Strikes Back is even easier to get into US mode, and boots straight to the game. Just click the U.S. Flag, and you'll be in English mode.
