O&O CleverCache optimises the file cache management of Microsoft Windows XP, 2000 and NT on workstations resulting in improved performance that may double the original system speed without restricting stability. Configuration and re-booting are not neceassary following installation.
Windows XP, 2000 and NT allocates main memory for the file cache that is no longer available for running applications. If applications request new memory, the system will be forced to swap currently unused memory areas into the paging file on the (slower) hard disk, thus requiring read/write access to the hard disk. This paradox leads to a dramatic decrease in system performance caused by the file caching. The file cache functions act as a speed brake on the computer, slowing it instead of making it faster.
CleverCache takes control of and improves the file cache management preventing heavy system loading and guaranteeing the availability of a certain amount of memory so that applications can allocate memory without forcing Windows to swap. This leads to a performance increase and to lower response times especially when running and switching between many applications simultaneously. The integration of CleverCache in Microsoft Windows is fully automatic. It runs as a system service in the background and guards the allocation of memory resources using AutoSense-technology. Every time that a computer is booted changes to the system's memory configuration are detected and taken into consideration. Configuration is unecessary; he administrator can use an applet within the Control Panel to adjust settings manually. The optimum level for the file cache is determined automatically and adjusted according to the available memory. Hidden system resources are activated without user interaction. Grant all users access rights to configure CleverCache or restrict it to administrators only during installation.
