A few Dreamcast users and I have been preparing for doing a proper full set of GD-ROM images for the Sega Dreamcast, complete with a image checking tool sort of like the Good tools. What has been holding us back is that there was no format to release GD-ROM dumps to make them usable. On April 1, nullDC was released and with it a special format called GDI. We started dumping games, but decided to withhold them until Golden Torrent weekend was finished so we could focus our bandwidth in that area, but wakaia has started uploading GDI images and we want to establish a standard before more people decide to begin uploading images.

The most important parts of this standard are properly dumping the game and packaging the game. We are using BBRip for our dumps, but because not everyone has a BBA, we cannot enforce its use. Any dumping should be done with your ripping software set to not ignore dummy sectors.

We have chosen 7zip on the Ultra setting as our standard of compression. This offers much higher compression than other tools.

The 7zip should be named as following:
Game Title (Region: J/U/E) [if more than one disc, #of#] [Product Number]

There are several product numbers on Dreamcast game packaging; the product number we have chosen to go with is the one marked within the game's IP.BIN or IP0000.BIN. You can find this by cutting the first 32k from the game's first or third track and opening it in IPBIN4WIN (available here).

EDIT: I made a batch file tool that takes the information out of the the files and formats it for posting all information. Download it here. Drag and drop IP.BIN, IP0000.BIN, track01.iso, or track03.iso onto the batch file and it will create a PostThis.txt. You should paste the contents of that file into your torrent and use the pre tags.

Within the 7zip file, there should be RAW/ISO files, and nothing else. GDI files should be included outside of the 7zip file.

Game Title (J) [1of4] [XXXXXXX]

Each track should be named trackXX.XXX (track01.iso, track02.raw, track03.iso, etc.)

There should be one 7zip file per game disc.

Each track should be the direct output of your ripping program, do NOT rebuild the ISO. We are looking to preserve the original game discs. We also will be ripping the low-density disc tracks. Do not omit them.

This torrent is intended to be an example for how a release should be done. I will soon put up a dump database up at http://dumpcast.thekickback.com/, so people can check the md5 sums of games they have against others'. In order to take part in this, we will be enforcing the above standards. We are not trying to be strict, and we are looking for any input you may have on this standard, but we must take a definite uniform approach in order to create the best full set of GD-ROM dumps possible.

Note that nullDC enforces region restrictions so you need the Japanese BIOS to play this disc. You can download all the Dreamcast BIOS images here.
