A Stone Woman - Gothic Tale by AS Byatt - BBC Radio Audiobook - cheops

A gothic tale about a woman who develops a mystifying and enigmatic condition, in which her body slowly turns to stone. Not just any stone, but all kinds and colors. Her reaction to this is beautifully told, as is the relationship that she develops with an Icelandic stonecutter.

Unusual and thought-provoking.

Episode 1:
AS Byatt`s gothic tale. Ines is grieving for her mother when she notices her navel has turned to flint.

Episode 2:
Ines worries about her petrification. The stone-cutter Thorsteinn says the answer lies in Iceland.

Episode 3:
Winter falls in Iceland and Ines` transformation has a dramatic conclusion.

Read by Penelope Wilton
