Christine Daae (Teri Polo) is a impoverished but talented young singer who was sent by the Count De Chagny (Adam Storke) to sing at the Paris Opera House to be trained by the manager Gerard Carriere (Burt Lancaster). However Carriere has left and the new manager Richard Cholet (Ian Richardson) along with his wife Carlotta (Andrea Ferreol) has taken over the Paris Opera House. After arriving to the Paris Opera House, Christine works in the costume department after a man who previous did was killed by the infamous Phantom (Charles Dance), a lonely disfigured masked man left alone in the opera cellars. After the Phantom hears Christine singing one night, he begins to teach Christine to sing while doing unfortunate accidents to Richard and Carlotta for not listening to his demands. The Phantom begins to fall in love with Christine but when the Count De Chagny arrives, Christine soon discovers that the Count De Chagny was an old childhood friend and lost love. Now the Phantom must win Christine back even if it kills everyone in the Paris Opera House.
