In 1990, the storm clouds of war were gathering over the Gulf. President Saddam Hussein said it would be the 'mother of all battles.' A million soldiers prepared to fight in the desert. On one side, Iraq, which five months earlier had invaded its neighbour Kuwait. And on the other, the American led coalition with the United Nations mandate to throw them out. Despite sanctions and immense international pressure, Saddam had refused to back down. This led to the First Gulf War.
