It has been four years since Taylor had his metal mayhem rocked the stage in the Netherlands, so it was about time for some new songs! It took blood sweat, tears, guts and gore to come to the process of ‘Come What(ever) May’. Despite the extensive tour schedule of Slipknot, in which three of the band members of Stone Sour are involved (Corey Taylor – Singer, James Root – Guitarist, Shawn Economaki – stage manager), the band did find the time and effort to create a diversity of songs for every mood(swing) possible.

‘Come What(ever) May’ marks the Stone Sour debut of former Soulfly drummer Roy Mayorga. He imprints the album with brutal, harsh pieces of drumwork. Wordwizard Taylor manages to mesmerize us yet again with his lyrical and poetic lyrics created in his complex brain. Anybody who has read his column in rock magazine Rock Sound Magazine knows that the singer masters an extensive vocabulary and that he loves to share his opinionated mind with anyone that wants to hear it.

He also manages to dazzle us with his powerful and pure voice. Also the solos of guitarist Josh Rand are worth a mention and are to be called at least creative, so it is only justified that he often melanges the songs with his fingerwork. Like I already said ‘Come What(ever) May’ has become varied and rather cool album, with tearing metal tracks, intense rock songs and some rock ballads.

Their first single is, in the same vain of mega hit ‘Bother’, the song ‘Through The Glass’. It’s a great song to relax to and overthink your mood, but it doesn’t have the catchy hit potential that ‘Bother’ had. But that doesn’t necessarily matter. It’s the big picture that counts. And despite the fact that this album didn’t necessarily make an inerasable impression on me, Stone Sour manages to pull off a pretty cool piece of work with a little help from their friends, like producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver), Wallflowers member Rami Jaffee and Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin.
