Arthur Honegger - Symphony No. 4 "Deliciae Basillenses" (1946) - Henri Dutilleux - Metaboles (1964) - Orchestre National de L'O.R.T.F. / Charles Munch
Honegger's Symphony No. 4 is the last from his so-called "war trilogy," nos. 2 - 4, written 1940 - 1950. All three reflect his experiences of living in occupied Paris during World War II. Of No. 4, Honegger has written: "[it] precisely expresses a state of mind. Amidst the hateful and stupid conditions life imposed on us, it tells of hopes raised by the prospect of escaping that atmosphere for a while by spending the summer in Switzerland surrounded by the affection of dear friends..." (a topical sentiment in today's world - reminding us of the countless many who no longer have a place to which they can escape...).
Two masterful performances from Charles Munch.
Digitally remastered recordings presumably made during the 1960s.
Includes notes, etc. (English, French and German).
