Torrent description

Teenage Fanclub - Album Discography Pt.I

Anyone curious about Teenage Fanclub but not familiar with their music would be advised to
wait for Pt.II of this three-part set or test the waters with Bandwagonesque from this torrent.
Or perhaps even wait for part three's 'A Short Cut To Teenage Fanclub' best of collection.

Recent converts may be missing the 'limited edition' release, The King, or the compilation of
early singles, Deep Fried Fanclub. For anyone completely in the dark, they're a four-piece from
Scotland, and my personal favourite British band of the past twenty years.

A Catholic Education [1990] Paperhouse Records/Matador Records

1. Heavy Metal
2. Everything Flows
3. Catholic Education
4. Too Involved
5. Don't Need a Drum
6. Critical Mass
7. Heavy Metal II
8. Catholic Education II
9. Eternal Light
10. Every Picture I Paint
11. Everybody's Fool

Norman Blake - vocals, guitar
Gerard Love - vocals, bass
Raymond McGinley - vocals, guitar
Francis MacDonald - drums
Brendan O'Hare - drums

Derivative and frequently dull, the band's debut shows little sign of the glory days to come.
The presence of early 'anthem' Everything Flows just about warrants the admission price, but
truth be told there's little to distinguish the album from countless other indie-rock offerings
of the period.

EAC secure rip with log/cue from 1995 Japanese King Records issue. Artwork included.

Deep Fried Fanclub [released 1995, recorded 1989-1991] Fire Records

1. Everything Flows
2. Primary Education
3. Speeeder
4. Critical Mass (Original)
5. The Ballad of John and Yoko
6. God Knows It's True
7. Weedbreak
8. So Far Gone
9. Ghetto Blaster
10. Don't Cry No Tears
11. Free Again
12. Bad Seed

Very presentable collection of early singles and b-sides, released in the wake of their
successful 1995 album, Grand Prix. Covers of The Beatles, Neil Young, Alex Chilton and Beat
Happening neatly summarise some key influences. God Knows It's True and So Far Gone would have
greatly improved the debut album.

EAC secure rip with log/cue from 1995 Fire Records issue. Artwork included.

The King [1991] Creation Records/Matador Records

1. Heavy Metal 6
2. Mudhoney
3. Interstellar Overdrive
4. Robot Love
5. Like A Virgin
6. The King
7. Opal Inquest
8. The Ballad of Bow Evil (Slow and Fast)
9. Heavy Metal 9

Norman Blake - vocals, guitar
Gerard Love - vocals, bass
Raymond McGinley - vocals, guitar
Brendan O'Hare - drums

Chronologically the band's second album, it was deleted on its day of release in 1991. The album
is often derided as a hastily assembled contractual obligation to US label Matador (allowing the
group to sign to Geffen without penalty). However the group have denied this, claiming that the
shambolic, spontaneous nature of the contents was a direct influence of producer Don Fleming,
whose music was often improvised. In a 2006 interview, Norman Blake and Brendan O'Hare confirmed
that the album had been recorded immediately after completing Bandwagonesque using pre-booked studio
time that became available when the aforementioned album was finished sooner than anticipated.
They also claimed that the album was intended to be a mid-price edition of 1,000 but their then UK
label Creation Records pressed 20,000 and sold them at full price. One of the band's most sought-
after releases, it's largely instrumental and seriously lacking in the catchy pop department, unlike
its immediate follow-up.

Bandwagonesque [1991] Creation Records/Geffen Records

1. The Concept
2. Satan
3. December
4. What You Do to Me
5. I Don't Know
6. Star Sign
7. Metal Baby
8. Pet Rock
9. Sidewinder
10. Alcoholiday
11. Guiding Star
12. Is This Music?

Norman Blake - Vocals, guitar
Gerard Love - Vocals, bass
Raymond McGinley - Vocals, guitar
Brendan O'Hare - Drums
Joseph McAlinden - Brass and strings
Don Fleming - Occasional guitar and vocals
Dave Buchanan - Handclaps

The third album brought the first great Teenage Fanclub material and with it commercial success. The
album was more deliberately constructed, the hooks became stronger, the guitar riffs were brought under
control, and the harmony vocals took shape. Bandwagonesque won Spin magazine's 1991 end-of-year poll
for best album, beating Nirvana's Nevermind, their Creation stablemates My Bloody Valentine's album
Loveless, and R.E.M.'s hugely successful Out of Time. Contains singles and live staples The Concept,
Star Sign, What You Do To Me and Alcoholiday. For many this remains a favourite album, but the best was
yet to come.

EAC secure rip with log/cue from 1991 Geffen Records Japan issue. Artwork included.

NB: this last album was the only lossless Teenage Fanclub title on Demonoid currently seeded, but without
artwork or cue/log.
