3 different versions of this concert were officially released until now (2008) :
-a VHS and DVD version in 1996 (original release) with a rather crappy sound mix and fake audience noises (while the CD set of the concert released at the same time sounded much better)
-a DVD in 2004 featuring new audio mixes (stereo and 5.1). Much better sound, though a few flaws in the new soundtrack that weren't in the previous version (horrible sound editing job on Heaven and Hell)
-a DVD in 2006 featuring a 16:9 version, which consists of the usual 4:3 version cropped down to 16:9. The 2006 DVD also features 2 new tracks as a bonus feature : Substitute and Naked Eye (not included in the main movie).
All three versions have the same video edit, with the tracks in the same order, which is not the correct order of the original concert (the Tommy set was moved to the end of the movie). Sometimes the video edit uses footage that doesn't match at all the soundtrack (footage taken from other parts of the concert).
This fan cut uses the following sources :
-1996 PAL DVD as the main video source
-2006 PAL DVD for the additional tracks (Substitute and Naked Eye), which were cropped again from 16:9 to 4:3 to match the rest of the footage
-1996 audio CD as the main source for the soundtrack (best audio mix yet in my opinion for this show)
-2004 DVD stereo source as the patch source for all the segments that were included in the film but not in the CD set
-1996 DVD stereo source for a short segment in Heaven and Hell which is only available on the 1996 video version for whatever reason, and for most of the stage banter between songs
The sound edit from those different sources was performed in ProTools, the first source change being the most audible because the 96 CD source and the 96 DVD source sound so different. The other edits are much smoothers.
All tracks were put in the right order, according to the original CD set release. Synching issues were fixed when possible. A few missing segments were restored. Lots of songs remain incomplete, especially in the Tommy set.
"THE OVERTURE", "I'M A BOY" AND "EYESIGHT TO THE BLIND" WERE REMOVED BECAUSE THERE'S NO ACTUAL FOOTAGE AT ALL FROM THESE SONGS ON THE OFFICIAL RELEASES. The beginning of the Tommy set on the official releases features a montage of footage more of less synched with a very destructive sound edit, so I decided it was pointless to include it.
Enjoy the last part of the concert, from Summertime Blues to Magic Bus, as it originally took place on the stage of the Isle of Wight festival, 38 years ago !
