D-A-D are not new in the music industry. It’s more than 20 years that they've been around and in the past they gave us pure Rock albums. "Monster Philosophy" is their tenth album so far, so let’s take a look to see what those four old rockers have to say in 2008 and if they "have it" even now.

For the beginning, some history lessons for those that doesn’t know anything about the band. Their story starts back in the early 80s. The original name of the band was DISNEYLAND AFTER DARK but in 1989 they had to change it to avoid an impending lawsuit from the Walt Disney Company, making it "D.A.D.". The final change in their name spelling was made in 2000 into the more Internet-friendly D-A-D. Their first EP, "It’s After Dark", was released in 1985. During those years the only lineup change took place in 1999 when Laust Sonne replaced former drummer Peter Lundholm Jensen. So, here we are, in 2008 with their new work already on the selves of the music stores.

The album starts with "Revolution", a great punk Rock song that brings in mind bands like BAD RELIGION. A nice refrain to sing along and practice your air guitar moves! The next two songs are equally nice, with their punk Rock sound. But as the album moves on, the compositions are starting to lean towards the post Rock sound, reminding bands like COLDPLAY... and for me this is not good. The only two songs I really enjoyed after the first three were "Chainsaw" - that is more or less with the same attitude as the first ones - and "Money Always Takes The Place Of Life", that starts as a country ballad and then transforms into a nice "happy", as the rhythm concerns, melodic punk Rock song.

Not a bad album for those four old rockers. OK, I may didn’t like the entire album, thus the rate at the end, but I believe that D-A-D still have the melody inside them and they can write good Rock songs.For me the best songs are those that step on the punk Rock form of BAD RELIGION rather than those that their sound is "music for the radio" and lay a hand on post Rock. I believe that "Monster Philosophy" is somewhere in the middle. So...
