"This recording of the legendary jazz personality Louis Armstrong performing in Paris during the latter part of his career still features ... Full Descriptiona few of the trumpet salvos that made him famous. But mostly, Louis Armstrong is content to lend his distinctive vocalizations to favorites like "When It's Sleepy Time Down South" and "When I Grow Too Old to Dream," while his competent band takes over on contemporary-sounding versions of "Perdido" and "Lover Come Back to Me," the latter sung by the reliable Jewell Brown."

Amazon.co.uk Review
Offering more from Louis Armstrong's 1965 Paris appearance, The Best Live Concert Vol 2 continues the emphasis on high-class entertainment and variety. Tyree Glenn's plunger-muted trombone gives a light-hearted version of the then-popular "Volare" and Buddy Catlett displays considerable merit as featured bass soloist on "Cocktails for Two". The reliable pianistics of Billy Kyle are back in the spotlight for "It's Easy to Remember" and drummer Danny Barcelona has solo opportunities on "Stomping at the Savoy". The leader doesn't sit all these out however and his golden trumpet is invariably heard towards the end of each sideman's feature and sometimes at the beginning too. "Muskrat Ramble" naturally gives the trumpeter more space and a return appearance by the exuberant vocalist Jewel Brown leads into the concert's climax with the inevitable "Saints Go Marching In" and a final reprise of "Hello Dolly". Though not actually Armstrong's best concert it was certainly a good one and, for a trumpeter in his mid-60s, also rather amazing. ~ Graham Colombé
