This fan edit of the first Lord of the Rings film seeks to be as conservative toward the films as they are while at the same time doing all that is reasonably possible to force them to agree with Tolkien's writing. They do not strictly hold to the book's construction and presentation of events as a rule, but do strive to present the contents accurately. “Historically accurate.” These are more akin to the TTT Purist Edit that has been floating around for the last few years.
These edits are based on the extended editions, and will be offered in a format that has not been re-encoded or compressed in the slightest bit from the original DVD source. (The video, anyway.)

Major changes:

- Made it look like Gandalf was less surprised at Bilbo's disappearance.

- Remove mention that Sauron cannot take physical form. Yes, he can.

Removed a few of Merry and Pippin’s Jar Jar moments.

Arwen has been put into her rightful place throughout this fan edit of the trilogy, beginning here with the removal of her “prayer” for Frodo.

Saruman and Gandalf subplot is lumped together and placed after Frodo wakes up in Rivendell.

Made it clearer that Saruman is an independent player who only pretends to be on Sauron’s side.

Removed any indication that Aragorn prefers exile. He does not contest his destiny.

- Saruman is not mentioned or shown on Caradhras. The fell voice on the air is just that.

Trimmed a little bit of the action from the cave troll sequence.

Shortened the scene with the crumbling stairway.

I used the theatrical version of the arrival at Lorien, removing a scene from the extended edition that did not seem to fit.

Aragorn does not deny his heritage, and all references to Arwen sailing across the sea are cut. Just as in the book, we assume Arwen to be waiting in Rivendell for Aragorn.

Removed the scene where Aragorn objects strongly to taking the ring to Minas Tirith.

Removed Galadriel’s implication to Frodo that someone in the fellowship will take the ring.

Removed the “music video” scene showing Saruman’s orcs running.


This fan edit trims about 30 minutes from the film in total, leaving it right about 3 hours in length.

Disc 1 is too big for a single layered, disc. But feel free to use DVD Shrink or whatever software you have to squeeze it into a single layered disc if you wish.
