Chet Baker - Milestone - Live At Gaetano’s (1966)
Bitrate: 320 kbps
This 1966 Pueblo concert can be found on several labels. Baker and Urso sound strong, and it somewhat makes up for the extremely poor recording quality. It's hard to believe this concert was recorded the same year as all of those terrible Mariachi Band and Carmel Strings albums. This is probably Baker's last great recording until his 1974 comeback. It's also our last opportunity to hear that beautiful voice before it reappeared in the 1970's scarred by cigarettes and drugs. ~ chetbakertribute.com
"This CD features the trumpeter with his good friend tenor-saxophonist Phil Urso and pianist Dave MacKay in a quintet performing live in his hometown. The playing is excellent but the recording quality is a bit disappointing, making this potentially valuable set (a straight-ahead session performed at a time when Baker's studio recordings were very commercial) of greatest interest to Chet Baker completists.
