As you already know that poker is the most popular card game on the globe. It has many variations, but it is mostly played with a deck of 52 cards. Occasionally, the game requires less or more cards. In the majority of cases the added cards are jokers and wild cards. The deck of cards contains four suits: diamonds, spades, hearts and clubs. And each suit is composed of 13 cards. High cards are King, Queen, Jack and Ace, which in some cases can also be the lowest card, depending on how the player wishes to use it in the game.
Evidently, the objective of this game is to win money, if possible more money than you lose. Let’s see how a game of poker goes. You will understand everything much better if you already know the basic rules of the game.
Because Texas Hold’em is the most popular variation of poker, we tried to give an accurate game description, but if you need more information, there are many poker and Texas Hold'em guides on the internet. First you need to know that this is a community card game that has four betting round.
When the game starts, one player must act as the dealer. This specific position is called in poker terms the button and it rotates after every hand. The only players that have money in the pot are the two ones sitting in the dealer’s left. They are called small blind and big blind.
Next, each player receives two cards facing down, and the first betting round begins. When all the players placed their bets, the dealer gives three community cards. This is called the flop in poker. And a second round of poker starts.
After the second round of betting ends, the dealer flips a fourth community card on the poker table. This part of a poker game is called the turn.
The game goes on, each player is carefully taking their decisions and watching their cards received so far, they get ready for a third round of bets. Each player has the chance to double on the turn. After every player finished placing his bet, the dealer puts another community card on the poker table. This is usually called the river.
The game is quickly coming to an end, but before that a final round of betting must take place. The players must think well and combine their cards with the community cards in order to make the best five-card hand possible in the game. The player with the best hand wins the pot.
Another thing, after each round of betting, each player must take some decisions. There are exactly five options. First, you have the possibility to fold, meaning you give up the chance to win the pot money by putting your hand on the table. Second, you can check. If nobody place a bet yet, you can neither bet nor fold. Third, you can bet, even if nobody has placed a bet yet; you can do that by placing your money on the table. Fourth, you have the option to call. You are allowed to call if bets have already been placed on the table. How do you call? It’s very simple; you have to match the other bets. And finally, your fifth option is raising. A player can raise if bets have already been placed on the poker table. Raising means you are increasing the initial bet.
As I already said poker is a great game. It’s not that simple to play, but it’s not that hard either. It’s exactly as I showed you above. I believe you should try it out.
