Simple Italian postman learns to love poetry while delivering mail to a famous poet; he uses this to woo local beauty Beatrice

# Writer/co-director/star Massimo Troisi postponed heart surgery so he could complete the film. The day after filming was complete, he suffered a fatal heart attack.

# Theatrical run in New York City was so long (almost two years), it was still in theaters after the video release and its premium cable run.

# This is a remake of Ardiente paciencia (1983), a film directed by Antonio Skármeta, author of the original source novel.

La música original de la película fue compuesta por Luis Enríquez Bacalov, quien ganó un Premio Oscar a la mejor banda sonora, luciéndose en la película el tema Madreselva, de Francisco Canaro. La película también obtuvo la nominación al mejor actor (Massimo Troisi), mejor director, mejor película y mejor guión adaptado.

El escritor y protagonista Massimo Troisi pospuso una cirugía cardíaca para poder terminar la filmación. El día después de que la misma fuera terminada, sufrió un ataque cardíaco que le causó la muerte.

É um filme dirigido por Michael Radford sobre a amizade entre o poeta chileno Pablo Neruda e um humilde carteiro que deseja aprender a fazer poesia.
