If you ever thought Hitler was any more than a psychotic freak, a deranged monster that had no human sense or feeling, you should avail yourself of some edification that could be brought to you in seeing this movie. Like Saddam Hussein was to Kuwait in his "scorched earth policy" so was Hitler to the people of Germany, in employing even more barbarous tactics - so much so that loyalist Albert Speer refused to implement them and considered the assassination of Hitler to instead be a saner policy to follow through with.
Generals were executed at Hitlers command "to be then hung from the nearest tree as deserters" if they lost battles that were a foregone conclusion given overwhelming forces they were facing towards the final end of the war and the completed capture of even Berlin itself, on German soil. That anyone could at this point follow his orders rather than out a bullet in his head will forever be a wonder for those with a saner hindsight perspective with a view to see that never again does a madman so completely control a nation with so much of the greatest human potential there is on this planet, only if rightly guided instead!
Germany paid dearly for its affair with Hitler Schicklgruber, a non "German patriot" imported from nearby Austria and made Fuhrer as he promised them a sort of utopia they should have instead shunned, as it would have been devoid of any real meaning. Hitler was after all simply promising a model based on nationalism rather than any defensible perspective of what supremacy is in what is the humanistic tradition. as such he was doomed to fail, and rightly so, thank goodness.
