******* Sånt händer inte här (This Can't Happen Here / High Tension) (1950) *******
It is said that this is the one movie Bergman made that he was so disappointed and embarassed with that he does not want it to be shown ever again. Neither has it been released on VHS/DVD.
Ingmar Bergman's " Sånt händer inte här " ("This Can't Happen Here") is very atypical of his oeuvre but touches on many of the vital themes in his work - God, death, and the devil. As a symptom of the times, the film is worth discussing. His reasons for making the movie may have included money and its anti-Soviet anti-communist message.
Although it is one of the weakest pictures in his filmography (a touch flat and confusing), it remains an interesting artifact and is VERY RARE - it cannot be screened on TV or cinema as all extant three remaining prints (2 x 16mm and 1 x 35mm)are held at Svensk Filmindustri with a legal injunction stopping any future commercial screenings. It certainly is NOT as bad as the three laughable duds: “Touch”, starring the ludicrously miscast Elliot Gould; “From the Life of the Marionettes” (1980); and “The Serpent's Egg”, starring the even more ludicrously miscast David Carradine.
This is a pretty good VHSRip with English subtitles – you won’t get DVD quality anywhere because it has never and will never be released on DVD. I will seed for 6 months. Film and subtitles (".srt" file) have been tested on both VLC and DivX and work perfectly.
Running Time 1:21:04
PS – if anyone has Bergman’s rare “Faro-dokument 1979” and “Farodokument 1969” please upload and seed!
