I must admit from the start that I’m biased toward enjoying this musical ensemble. They have a quirky band name that references my favorite animal, their album artwork is bright pink, and the trio includes a female band member who plays the drums as though they’re on fire. This is the start of a beautiful listening experience!
Tiger! Shit! Tiger! Tiger! is a band from Italy, with a musical style that is best described as a combination of indie rock and post-punk (with new wave and older punk influences). Bouncing guitar, heated drums, and undulating vocals are the key overtones of Tiger!. Their sound is comparable to Blood Brothers and The Rapture - at times mimicing the vocal work of Ian Svenonius. I felt myself incredibly drawn to song number six, "The Architects Of Despair," which encompasses the best of their influences. The usually-amorphous vocalist adopts the wavering cadence of old-school punk singers; The Clash particularly comes to mind.
However, this was the only song that captured my attention in such a way. The rest of this debut album provided a great soundtrack for dancing or cleaning my apartment. Though Be Yr Own Shit is strong, it gives the overall impression of a demo. Understated packaging carries a short but sweet, eight song selection displaying their musical chops. All in all, it is a brief, enjoyable album.
