Torrent description

This 12th season story is one of the all-time great episodes of GUNSMOKE.

There is only one thing wrong with it (actually two things): Instead of including the 1966 gunfight in the street opening with Matt Dillon, it instead has the 1968 opening with Matt riding his horse at top speed and whipping it. The other thing is that in place of the 1966 opening theme montage of the central cast including Roger Ewing (who joined the previous season as Thad Greenwood) it has the 1968 opening theme with Buck Taylor as Newley O' Brien (who didn't first appear until the 13th season in 1967)!!

At least the end theme is the one originally heard.

I never understood why the home video versions (VHS and DVD) had those replacements. The un-remastered film prints that air on
TV Land have the correct openings for this episode. One of the other two 12th season shows I have is in its original form. Another has the gunfight, but not any opening theme.

Also in the guest cast of "The Jailer" are Zalman King and Robert Sorrells as Bette Davis' other sons.

Bruce Dern's audio commentary is largely his overview of Hollywood and the actors he worked with in 45+ years in show business rather than GUNSMOKE in particular, but his observations are interesting to hear.
