Baghdad Headbangers 11-10-2008
The story of Iraq's most celebrated heavy metal band, Acrassicauda. Formed in Baghdad during Saddam's reign in 2000, the band members were forced by terror and threats to flee their homes and are now living as refugees in Turkey. Still waiting for their first record deal, they hope one day to secure asylum in America. Producers Peregrine Andrews and Arlen Harris
From The Radio Times
Part of the American Army's attack on Iraqi insurgents in Fallujah at the end of 2004 was to blast them senseless with music from the likes of AC/DC and Metallica. Little did they realise that Iraq had already spawned its own genre of heavy rock - Baghdad metal. This documentary meets the members of Acrassicauda. Their name comes from the Latin word for a black scorpion, so they're ticking all the sterotypes with a bloodsoaked nib thus far, until you realise that they now live in exile because of serious threats to their lives, not to hide from the tax man.
