Valentine's Day is looming, but the atmosphere hangs heavy in the Hughes household. Simon is exasperated by the kids' behaviour and insists Jane is not being supportive enough.

Emily is out partying, and 14-year-old Tom is rubbing Simon up the wrong way. When Tom is rude to his dad in front of a school friend, it's the final straw. Switching off his computer game, Simon banishes Tom to "go play outside" before being chided by Jane who doesn't want her son "wandering around when I don't know where he is".

Then when Emily arrives home in the early hours, once more waking Simon, things take a turn for the worse. Simon takes it upon himself to tidy Emily's room - into black bin bags. "It's the small things that piss you off enough to throw you over the edge", he exclaims as he unplugs the nearest camera.

Will the bad feelings last or will the most romantic day of the year lead to a rapprochement?
