Centering round the restoration of a Halifax bomber at Trenton, Ontario, and the reminiscences of aircrew and aeronautical engineers, this is probably the best documentary available on the subject. Actual period footage of the plane is a bit sparse, but it lived in the shadow of the more famous Lancaster, and the latter probably drew the camera crews of the day. That said, there's a spectacular sequence of a Halifax's undercarriage collapsing and it slithering to a halt on its belly.

Included in the DVD is a silent colour film of the stop-gap passenger version, the Halton, being handed over to airline officials and giving the VIPs a joy ride. Historically fascinating and indicative of how ill-prepared impoverished Britain's aircraft industry was for the onset of peace and the demand for airliners.

Those who know the Halifax will find plenty to enjoy in this highly competent production. Those who know nothing about the plane will find it an fascinating introduction.
