We previously posted a torrent that contained these two very useful applications for making a copy of your DVD to store on your hard disk in original or converted form, or duplicated onto a DVD disc in single or dual layer format.
We need to clarify some things that are now clear from experience. we had previously only backed up dual layer movies onto dual layer media using DVD decrypter. its the best known tool for doing a DVD disc copy and its free. Its one of the items in this zip file. (Many of our zip files are zipped using winzip's best encoding method and may require a download of their freely available evaluation version to unzip -it saves on bandwidth to use smaller zips obviously).
We do need to clarify that DVD shrink may be additionally useful to save on disc space on you computer or bandwidth if you plan to share your DVD on the torrent system or to save greatly on costs if you plan to use single layer cheaper disc media for making copies of your originally dual layer discs. That said, there may be a loss in audio sync using this tool (although it isn't widely advertised as a fact) and so you have to test the particular DVD to decide if it is in fact a proper use of this tool secondarily. There is a website that suggests that you get better results with DVD shrink if you work from a copy that has first been copied onto your hard disk using decrypter. You have to check the particular movie top see if audio sync becomes an issue or not, if you use decrypter because it obviously works a good many times with great results from what we hear from its supporters, and there's very little bad press around it appears.
In any event, using decrypter along with Nero os some other equally reliable disc burning software will allow you to safely store originals of all your DVD's although you may get used to working with just DivX copies for your normal viewing since they are so small in file size and can fit many more movies on the same number of discs and make them easier to share additionally too.
It is my sincere goal to make exact duplicated of DVDs in DivX format including perfect audio sync, chapter selection menus and all available subtitles and audio tracks. we will do this just as soon as the best tools to get the job done become known to be available to us. Michael C.
